Kpopmap Fan Interview: 3 Starlight From Malaysia Gush Over Ravi, His Music, Influence & More

Kpopmap Fan Interview is back with a special edition! We have answers from fans of the groovy artist VIXX’s Ravi who has just come back with “LOVE&FIGHT”. Ravi has been long recognized for his talents ever since his debut in the popular boy group VIXX and for his solo activities and being the CEO of GROOVL1N as well. Ravi’s fans have a lot to say about him. If you are not a Starlight yet, this will be the must-have guide to joining the fandom. If you are already part of the fandom, this is the opportunity to get closer to other Starlight.

A lot of Ravi’s fans joined the interview. Today, we have 3 Starlight from Malaysia with us: Christine, Q and Nadine! They talk about how they became a fan of Ravi, why they love him, their favorite songs, content, and lyrics, and much more.

 

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

I’m Christine and I’m 22 years old. I’m from Malaysia. Christine Hello. I am Q. I’ll turn 23 this April and I am greeting you from Malaysia. I hope everyone is having a nice day! Q Hi, I’m Nadine from Malaysia. I’m 27 and currently working as a doctor. Nadine

How and when did you enter the fandom?

I watched “2 Days & 1 Night” Season 4 and heard Ravi’s track ‘Rockstar’ during the show, the song was really catchy especially the chorus part. I searched the song up and it lead me to Ravi. I guess that was the start of loving him. Christine I entered this fandom around December of 2020. I first found Ravi through a variety show called “2 Days & 1 Night” on KBS. After analyzing his personality through that program, I am very much attracted to him and decided to catch up and follow through with all his solo/group projects. Q I’m pretty new to the fandom I must say, I discovered Ravi exactly on 7 July 2021 so it hasn’t even been a year since I’ve been a fan. I was scrolling through YouTube for something to watch and I stumbled upon “2 Days & 1 Night” Season 4 ep 82. I must say that I was going through a really tough time at that time. I was gonna sit for my final paper in medical school during the pandemic in a few months at that moment. I was really struggling a lot, it got to a point where I was crying every single day. Anyways long story short, that show made me laugh every day and I looked forward to watching it, especially watching Ravi’s antics. After that, I started researching about Ravi and found out that he’s a singer and so I started listening to his music and fell in love with his songs. I’m a very anxious person and my mind is always running with anxious thoughts so while I’m studying I need to listen to loud, catchy songs so his music accompanied me through those long hard days. What are the reasons why you love your favorite artist?

I really love him being the ‘maknae’ in “2 Days & 1 Night” Season 4, where he can rely on and get babied by his ‘hyungs’. I guess this is what caught my attention. On the other hand, he is the older brother in his family and also at his company. He gets to show the responsible and organized side of him. Christine My favorite artist, Ravi, is the most hardworking person I have ever seen. He never ceases to amaze and surprise his fans with his masterpieces. The fact that he takes good care of the people around him makes him appear as someone more reliable. And for that reason, I live everyday trying to be at least half as productive as him. Q Just EVERYTHING about him. I love that he’s a great rapper/singer, I love the music he creates. I love that he’s a very hardworking and responsible person, something I’m striving to be. I especially love how crazy and funny he can be too. Nadine

Which song by them caught your attention at first and why?

 

‘Rockstar’ caught my attention because it was really catchy! Christine

 

The first song by Ravi that I listened to is ‘Rockstar’. I also discovered this song through the variety show “2 Days & 1 Night”. After listening to it, I started to discover a lot of distinctive music from him. His song that caught my attention at first is ‘U-NIVERSE’ (Cosmocorps) (Feat. Rick bridges). This song starts off with such a cute comment in the introduction and through the lyrics in this song, I discover the sweet and romantic side of Ravi. Q

 

‘BUM’ featuring Chillin Homie and Kid Milli. That was the first song I liked. I love how catchy and unique it sounds. Honestly it was really cool to hear how the hip-hop beats blended with the Pansori performance. Nadine

Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans?

 

I would recommend ‘Winner’ for title track and ‘Drowning in the Rain’ for B-side track of his new album ‘LOVE&FIGHT’. Christine

To choose only one title track and B-side track for the new fans is almost impossible because all of Ravi’s songs are very interesting and different from one to another. Hence, depending on one recommendation alone may not be suitable to the preferences of different individuals. But if I had to recommend one, it would be ‘LIMITLESS’ (Feat. Sik-K & Xydo) from his third mini album “LIMITLESS Pt.1” for the title track, and ‘HOODIE’ (Feat. Xydo & Raf Sandou) from his second mini album “R.OOKBOOK” for the B-side track. Please also listen to his other songs because he really makes such good music! Q

Can you recommend a fancam, V-Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your favourite artist to our readers?

I would recommend Ravi’s VIXX ‘Eternity’ fancam, because the dance is really hot and you just want to focus on Ravi.Christine

There is this one fancam which I keep on repeating almost every day which is PO$EI + DREAMCATCHER stage on Youtube. Q

 

I also enjoy watching his concert videos where he performs songs such as ASURA, BANDI & LUNI’S, AROUSAL, and TURN ON THE LIGHT. His fancams as a VIXX member are also really fun! Q

It’s a video of Ravi saying ‘3 set aegyo sound’ on Shin YeEun’s “Volume Up” radio show. It’s so cute and funny it cracks me up.Nadine

Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics?

One of my favourite lyrics would be from ‘Virus’.

 

“언덕 앞 빛이 너와 날 드리울 때
그제서야 하나가 돼 완전하게
사랑이란 단어 안에서 입 맞춰 우리는”

 

Rough translation:

 

“When the light on the hill shines on you and me
Only then, we’ll become one completely
In the name of love, we’ll kiss”

 

And he ends the song with the last word ‘love’ which means that everything ends with love. Christine

I think my favorite lyrics so far have got to be from “Leaf (Feat. 10CM)” which is: “하루를 살아도 나로 살게 너로 살고 왜 내가 니 방패가 된 채 다치고 피를 봐 everyday 그래 좀 더 쉬어도 돼 때로는 안주해도 돼 넌 뭐가 되지 않아도 돼 넌 너이기만 하면 돼” Trans: “Even if I live for just one day, I wanna live as me Why should I live as you and be your shield And get hurt and bleed everyday? Yea, it’s okay to rest a little more Sometimes, it’s okay to settle You don’t need to be something You just need to be you”Q

 

I think the lyrics are very comforting and it’s like telling me that I am enough and that I don’t have to try and become someone else. Q

Are there any quotes by your favourite artist that you would like to share?

“You can live longer if you stay away from meat and flour-based products, but then there’s no reason to live long anyways.” I feel that this is true and funny at the same time. Christine Ravi has a lot of wise sayings coming from him. One of his quotes that I remember the most is from “2 Days & 1 Night” where he said this while watching the sunset. The quote is “But it’s not disappearing. It’s rising up somewhere else.” I feel like it gives me strength to face the world even after a lot of downfalls in my life. What kind of influence has your favourite artist had on your daily life? (E.g.: Brings me constant happiness / pushes me to pursue my dreams / study Korean)

Ravi has influenced and inspired me to manage my time well, because he is amazing at it, and fans even said that he has a time turner! Some even said that Ravi can be separated into 3, Ravi #1 could be recording a song, Ravi #2 could be performing, Ravi #3 could be filming, all at the same time. He makes me want to fully utilize my time and manage my time well and also fill up my time with eventful and meaningful activities. Christine Ravi is such a truly great person, and I admire him so much. His passion never runs dry and his kindness flows endlessly. I am a super shy and introverted person, and I always have difficulties communicating with people. Therefore, I ended up doing most things on my own, not wanting to rely on anyone else. After getting to know him, I realize there is someone who also works hard despite being left alone, just like me. I think I live the same life as him, but on a different side of the world. He has been an inspiration for me since then, and I live everyday trying to be the person that he is. I cannot lie, it is super tiring. But in the end, I can feel happiness and satisfaction. And doing things alone no longer brings despair now, only happiness. Q Honestly, just watching him just brings me happiness and he was something I held on to for strength as I was pursuing my dream to be a doctor. Nadine

What is your favorite side of fangirling/fanboying?

My favourite side of fangirling is I can be happy so easily by just looking at Ravi’s new content of him. Christine My favorite side of fangirling is that I got to meet a lot of nice people on the internet, who share the same interests as mine. Fangirling also made me realize that I am not really bad at interacting with people, especially the other fans. It makes me feel good in many ways. Q

Do you feel there are any misunderstandings, things that are not well known, or any prejudices about your favorite artist from other fans (non-fans)?

It seems like other fans think that Ravi is not as popular. But he actually has a lot of experience and junior artists look up to him. They are always happy when he offers help. Ravi has been through a lot, and everything that he went through makes who he is now. Christine Of course there are some unpleasant things being thrown out at Ravi. It seems that others always think that Ravi’s music style is very stagnant and boring. However, after giving all the songs a listen, I could tell that there are various aspects to his music and that is what makes it special. His music talks about friendship, relationship, family, hardship, life in general, and most importantly his fans. Q
