Kpopmap Fan Interview: A Malaysian ReVeluv Talks About Her Favorite Group Red Velvet & Her Bias Joy

There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other.

So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.

 

Siti is the next fan to answer our questions. She is from Malaysia and is a fan of Red Velvet and more particularly of Joy! Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more!

 

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

Hi, my name is Siti Aishah & I’m a ReVeluv from Malaysia!

 

How and when did you enter the fandom?

I was a fan of a senior girl group & when I saw ‘Happiness’ teasers, I was excited! I love their songs ‘Happiness’ & ‘Be Natural’ so I was a casual fan at first. When ‘Automatic’ MV got released during ‘Ice Cream Cake’ comeback, I fell in love with Red Velvet instantly!

 

What are the reasons why you love your favorite group?

OMG, there’s so many reasons! First, they have amazing diverse music! I love most of their songs! Their Red & Velvet side of songs are so unique!
Second, their heavenly harmonious vocals! Each of them have a different singing voice & yet they always sound so good together! Third, they are a kind, humble & respectful women who always love their fans! Their words of wisdom always gave me courage to go through my tough life.

 

Who caught your attention at first and why?

Wendy because of her “Shine on me!” line in ‘Happiness’ MV!

 

Who is your bias, and why?

Joy because I fell in love with her voice in ‘Automatic’ MV! Also the strawberry blonde hair is so pretty! Aside from her beautiful voice & hair, she is also such a smart woman. Her words of wisdom really strike a cord in my heart. She’s such a talented all-rounder who can sing, rap, dance, and is also a TV actress & TV host. I love watching her TV dramas! She is also the funniest idol I have ever known! I love watching her in variety shows!

 

Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans?

I would love to recommend ‘Umpah Umpah’ because it’s my favourite summer song from them & ‘You Better Know’ because of it’s inspirational lyrics and one of my favourite B-sides.

“It’s very difficult to even love yourself wholeheartedly in this cruel and harsh world, but I’m really thankful to those who have given this much love and took interest in one person, someone like me. I will become a warm person who gives back to many people just as much as the love I’ve received.” – JOY from “Perfect Velvet” album.

 

What is your favorite group/bias’ influence on your daily life?

I always streamed their music during my everyday life & their music always brings me happiness!

 

What is your favorite side of fangirling/fanboying?

Fangirling gave me happiness! It made me forget about the stress in life. Also meeting new people who love Red Velvet like me.

 

Do you feel there are any misunderstandings, things that are not well known, or any prejudices about your favorite group from other fans (non-fans)?

Idols are people too. They make mistakes & they apologize. They also like normal people who learn from their mistakes and become a better person.
