Kpopmap Fan Interview: A Canadian iGOT7 Talks About Her Favorite Group GOT7 & Her Bias YuGyeom

There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other.
So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.

 

An iGOT7 (Ahgase) from Canada is the next fan to answer our questions. She is a fan of GOT7 and more particularly of YuGyeom! Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more!

 

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

Hi! I’m an Ahgase and one of the admins of @PromoteYugyeom and I’m from Canada!

 

How and when did you enter the fandom?

I became a fan of GOT7 during 2019 around the “Spinning Top”/’Eclipse’ era. I’ve known of the group for a while and heard a few songs, but it wasn’t until then that I became more interested. I just started listening to some more of their music here and there and checked out some of their variety content and just fell in love with the group!

 

What are the reasons why you love your favorite group?

GOT7 is just a group with so much talent and they all have such warm personalities. Their dancing and live vocals are amazing and their stage presence is something that cannot be beat. They have a very friendly and caring image and I just love their relationship with us fans–we care about each other, but also joke around a lot with each other like we’re friends. Whether it’s as a group or as solo artists, each and every member brings so much to the table.

 

Who caught your attention at first and why?

My bias in GOT7 has always been YuGyeom. There was just something that made me gravitate towards him.

 

Who is your bias, and why?

YuGyeom is my bias and has always been my bias in the group! He just has a very warm and sweet personality and is a mega talented singer and dancer–you can really tell that he loves performing and being on stage. I admire that he’s constantly working hard on honing his skills and is always trying to learn new things and grow to become a better artist. And he has a smile that just melts your heart!

 

Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fan

My personal favourite title track from GOT7 is ‘You Are’ so I would recommend that, but also to check out their latest title track ‘NANANA’ because it shows off GOT7’s colours very well.

 

 

 

I’d also recommend ‘Page’ or ‘Teenager’ as some B-sides that show GOT7’s colours along with ‘The End’ and ‘Sick’ which are more sentimental and emotional.

 

 

 

 

 

For YuGyeom as a solo artist, I want to recommend his title track ‘Take You Down’ and the B-sides ‘Lights’ and ‘Love The Way’. They show the different styles of music that YuGyeom is able to pull off!

Can you also do the same type of recommendation for the group?

You should definitely watch “Hard Carry” (there’s seasons 1, 2 (full episodes on vlive) & 2.5 (full episodes on youtube)) which is one of GOT7’s most iconic variety programs. And I would also recommend GOT7 Studio ‘Take Me To You’ Live. It’s one of the live contents that I watch on repeat because of the beautiful vocals!

 

 

 

Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics?

Are there any words from the members you would like to share?

“It’s not possible to be happy all day, but I hope that my fans will be the people who can find a piece of happiness in the day and cherish that happiness.” – Jay B

What is your favorite group/bias’ influence on your daily life?

They bring me joy when I’m feeling tired or down and there’s a song for every mood in their discography. So no matter if I’m sad, angry, happy, etc. I can find comfort in their music every day.

 

What is your favorite side of fangirling/fanboying?

I’ve made many in real life Ahgase friends since I joined the fandom and I love that there are people to fangirl with and get excited about GOT7 with. I think that’s the best part: being able to share the laughs and excitement with other people who love the group as much as you do!

 

Can you describe your bias in only one word?

Passionate.

 

What’s your favourite 2022 moment involving your bias?

YuGyeom recently finished his first ever solo tour this past May and I can’t describe in words how proud I am of him and everything he has accomplished! Although I wasn’t able to attend, I could see from all the videos how much fun he was having on stage and how free he looked just doing what he loves. Everyone who attended only had good things to say about him and he was able to show the world why he is a top tier performer!

 

What is a random fact that you think people don’t know about them?

YuGyeom has mentioned in the past that he likes the word ‘always’ because he likes things that are constant or unchanging.

 

Name 1 quality in your bias that you wish you had.

His positive mindset. He’s able to find happiness in the little things and his positivity just radiates like sunshine to everyone around him!

 

Do you feel there are any misunderstandings, things that are not well known, or any prejudices about your favorite group from other fans (non-fans)?

Some people outside of the fandom might think of GOT7 as just a funny group that’s loud and chaotic, and while they do have that side to them they are also very hardworking and serious about their careers whether it be writing, producing, choreographing, directing, acting, modeling, MC-ing, etc. They are so talented and have so much to offer besides just being funny guys. They also have such a vast discography (group and solo) ranging from ballads, upbeat pop, r&b, hip-hop, retro, pop rock, etc. and there really is a song for everyone if you just take the time to check out their music more in-depth!
