Chapter 11ย (Part. 1)
Since I have visited so many places and still haven’t even scratched the surface of what Seoul offers, this list will be locations that were personally my highlights over the past month. Some of the sites I have listed below may seem familiar, as I probably mentioned in previous articles. This is in no particular order, just places I have enjoyed visiting and have incredible memories of. I’ve had a blast exploring Seoul over the past month, and I hope to come back and explore more!
My List Of Top 10 Areas in South Korea
1. Andong Day Trip
Andong was most definitely a highlight of my time in South Korea. One of the reasons why it was such a highlight was because it was the first ever trip I had taken during my time here. I went with the program and spent the entire day learning about the history of the Joseon Era and going around with the tour guide to see Hohoe Village, The Wishing Tree, and just taking in the nature around me. It was indeed one of the best day trips I have ever taken. Another reason why this trip was so memorable was that since it was all of us interns traveling together for the first time, it was the first time we really got to know each other and bonded while traveling. It was also the first time we rode the KTX Bullet Train going there and back, so there were just so many firsts in one day, and I loved learning more about Korean history.
2. An Evening At Han River
The Han River was actually a surprise highlight for me. The other interns in the program and I weren’t expecting to go to the Han River on a Sunday night. I remember we just went out and played bowling and grabbed dinner, but our program coordinators took a detour towards the Han River to eat cake and listen to Christmas music. The Han River view is beautiful at night. I would love to come back and visit during the day; however, that night was exceptional. We all relaxed, drank wine, sat on the steps, and enjoyed each other’s company. Even though it wasn’t anything extravagant, it’s one of my highlight locations because I’ll never forget the conversations I had with others. It was a great location to end an already fabulous day filled with activities like bowling and eating delicious food!
3. Working Beside Jogyesa Temple
Every day as I walk into the office, I see Jogyesa temple beside our work and want to explore it. I was excited that I had the opportunity to explore it with my co-workers during our lunch break and take pictures of the beautiful architecture and garden. Even though it was a short and quick visit, I had a great time hanging out with my co-workers, talking with them about Jogyesa temple, learning some facts about Korean temples, and even burning incense and praying at the end. After being curious for awhile about what it looked like inside, I had a delightful time with my co-workers. It was also cool to hear the temple from outside as I worked.
4. A Day At Nodeul Island
You may recognize the name, as I have written an article about my experience at Nodeul Island. Feel free to check it out here (My One Day Adventure at Nodeul Island) if you haven’t. That entire day was just a great highlight for me for multiple reasons. The first reason was that this was my first big task for work and going outside the office with another co-worker. It was nerve-wracking yet exciting. The second reason it is one of my highlights is that I had time to explore not only Nodeul Island but Yongsan, which is where it is connected to. I even got the chance to checkout BTS Entertainment Agency HYBE on the way there! The co-worker and I went to the mall to look around and ended our day at this really nice cafe where we talked and did some work. It was a last-minute location to go to, but it was a great experience in the end!
5. Bukchon In Hanbok
The day dressed in Hanbok was one of the best days I have ever experienced being here! We started the day by waking up early and getting to the boutique around 10:30am to pick out our Hanbok colors and clothing and do our hair and makeup. It was so much fun, and we all loved seeing each other’s final look. We even stopped to have lunch before heading to the palace, so it was my first time trying Bibimbap which was delicious! Once we got to the palace, the day had just begun! We took hundreds of pictures dressed in traditional Hanbok clothing and followed a tour guide around the palace. After spending around 4-5 hours there, we ended the day exploring Bukchon and went to a cafe to watch the sunset. It was a long full day in which I made many memories and had a lot of fun with my friends.
