I’ve been into K-Pop for almost 13 years. I started by being a fan of the biggest groups on the scene.
But then, one day in 2011, a very weird thumbnail appeared on my YouTube homepage. It was ‘Supa Luv’, by TEEN TOP.
I fell in love right then and there, it was a relatively new concept in K-Pop back then, so it caught my attention immediately. I’ve been right beside them for 12 years now๐, and the first and last time I saw them live was in August 2014.ย
They lost one member, and their popularity overseas was decreasing, so I just accepted the fate they would never come back to my country, until 2019, when “Party to N9ne” tour was announced.ย
I secured the best ticket there was at the venue, booked my flight and a week later, it was cancelled. My heart broke into a million pieces because I lost my opportunity to see them again.
This year started so weird for me, and back in April I was struggling with my mental health. TEEN TOP has always been a source of happiness for me, so I started listening to all of their music on repeat, dancing to their choreos, watched all of their variety shows and started to watch their occasional individual streams at 5 or 6AM. I was feeling happy again, and it was all thanks to them.ย
Then it suddenly happened – they had a little resurfacing on the internet because of a TV show, and they announced a comeback, a new lightstick, and then a concert. After not having that much content in the past 4 years, I was so busy with every single schedule of theirs, and finally, they announced a concert that will also be streamed online.ย
I was certain I was buying those tickets, I was just waiting to get paid. I was so happy when I finally got the online streaming tickets through hellolive. After 9 long years, I was going to see them again.
My brother is a huge fan too, so even though the concert was at 2AM, he bought a ticket and we had a watch party at my house.
We took our lightsticks, some snacks, and just waited until the concert started. We were so hyped up already, talking about which song we thought they were going to open the concert with. And the first “TEEN TOP We Gonna Rock It, Drop It, Top It, Hey, Don’t Stop It, Pop it” started.
The concert was so long and so fun. We wondered how they managed to still be that good on stage. They went through it with such ease, looking like they weren’t tired at all.
We were crying at the beginning, waving our lightsticks and singing as if we were there, the atmosphere was so good, and they were really going at it for the whole almost 3 hours. We enjoyed every single song, all the solo stages were amazing. my personal favourite was Ricky‘s cover of ‘Move’ by SHINee’s TaeMin.
This experience made me fall in love even more with them, and reassure my love and my decision to stan them as my favourite group. Watching them perform a lot of old songs made me so emotional. After all, I’ve been waiting for them 4 years. I will forever cherish all the memories I made that day.
I’m really hoping for a concert in Mexico. We’ve been waiting for a long time to see them again, but we’re still here, we never left ๐.
