ZEROBASEONE Official

On January 10, 2024, after winning “Rookie of the Year (Physical Album)” at the “13th Circle Chart Music Awards” (CCMA), ZEROBASEONE (a.k.a ZB1) officially achieves the “Rookie Grand Slam”, exactly 6 months after their debut (July 10, 2023), and on their “Miracle” GunWook’s birthday!

I hope you enjoyed your special day with your members, GunWook!

ZEROSE took to X (formerly Twitter) to trend #ZB1RookieGrandSlam and tell the world that ZEROBASEONE are “Unstoppable Rookies”. To add excitement, the fandom celebrated Global Prince Zhang Hao, who won this year’s VIAJE Global Popularity Award, and Genius MC Seok Matthew, who was a co-host for CCMA.

A plethora of awesomeness and nostalgia has graced ZEROBASEONE and ZEROSE, who have made (and still making) names and waves in the industry. After their momentous journey on “Boys Planet“, ZEROBASEONE is leaving their mark that will bloom into a beautiful legacy. Gaining the “Rookie Grand Slam” has further encapsulated their record-breaking milestones.

This recognition is no small feat. Attaining the “Rookie Grand Slam” means winning “Rookie of the Year” or equivalent titles at the five major Korean award shows within the first year of debut. These include “MAMA Awards” (Mnet Asian Music Awards), “Melon Music Awards” (MMA), “Seoul Music Awards” (SMA), “Golden Disc Awards” (GDA), and “Circle Chart Music Awards” (formerly Gaon Chart).

Only six K-Pop groups have earned this honor. These groups are SHINee (2008), iKON (2015), Wanna One (2017), ITZY (2019), TXT (2019), and aespa (2022).

This is the legendary lineup ZEROBASEONE joins, who is the first K-Pop boy group in a while to earn this title, succeeding TXT. They’re also the 2nd K-Pop boy group not from the Big 4 to earn the “Rookie Grand Slam”, coming after Wanna One.

Let’s recap on the five major Korean award shows ZEROBASEONE has won during this award season, alongside some content and fun facts about their well-deserved wins! Join me in congratulating Sung HanBin, Kim JiWoong, Zhang Hao, Seok Matthew, Kim TaeRae, Ricky, Kim GyuVin, Park GunWook, and Han YuJin on this newly well-earned milestone!

Fun Facts

Our three wonderful members who did the intros to ‘In Bloom’ (YuJin) and ‘Crush’ (Ricky and GyuVin) in ZEROBASEONE’s performance covered ‘Kick it’ by NCT 127 on “Boys Planet”, along with Zhang Hao! Consider this a glimpse of the survival show ZEROBASEONE competed in last year as trainees and how far they’ve come in a short period.

Since ZEROBASEONE and RIIZE won “Best New Artist”, a fun fact is that HanBin is now joined by SoHee of RIIZE and JaeHyun of BOYNEXTDOOR as the new “M COUNTDOWN” co-hosts. They also covered ‘The First Snow’ by EXO! Here’s a fun flashback to when HanBin met the two for the first time before the two were announced as new co-hosts!

SoHee and JaeHyun are succeeding after MiYeon of (G)I-DLE, who helped HanBin with his new MC duties before concluding her own at “M COUNTDOWN”. Please cheer on HAMCEE (the adorable nickname for HanBin that combines HAMster + eMCEE) on his “M COUNTDOWN” journey, along with his two new MC buddies!

Zhang Hao and GunWook are also found in the performance cover video for ‘Seven’.

3. “33rd Seoul Music Awards” at Rajamangala National Stadium, Thailand

Rookie of the Year | January 2, 2024

Fun Fact

ZEROBASEONE had an intro dance break, followed by remixes of ‘In Bloom’ and ‘Crush’ for their performance.

4) 38th Golden Disc Awards at Jakarta International Stadium, Indonesia

Best Rookie | January 6, 2024

Other Notable Awards

Best Album Bonsang

Fun Facts

ZEROBASEONE is the 1st and only K-Pop boy group to receive “Best Album Bonsang” within the first year of their career and the 1st and only K-pop boy group to win “Best Rookie” and “Bonsang” at the same time, 38 years later in GDA history. They join ITZY, aespa, STAYC, IVE, and NewJeans with this milestone.

The guitar TaeRae played during his special performance with Zhang Hao and HanBin is a gift from his global fanbase (@taeraeglobal on X) for his birthday last year: July 14, 2023!

If you watched the “PSIK Show Mini Awards”, yes, GunWook did indeed do a forward roll to give TXT’s YeonJun his award.

Zhang Hao is the first foreign idol to get the VIAJE Global Popularity award. He joins TaeYeon of Girls’ Generation and SeHun of EXO as the only soloists to win this award. His solo ‘Always‘ (after winning 1st on Boys Planet) can be found in “Youth in the Shade“! Watch his winning speech below!

GunWook’s birthday happened in conjunction with the “Circle Chart Music Awards”. He got to celebrate his birthday early with YuJin and Matthew on January 8th, 2024 via the group’s Instagram Live! His special day got even more special, but you must watch ZEROBASEONE’s CCMA performance to find out.

Extras

Proud is an understatement. Even if the rest of their awards are listed here, it’s not enough to explain the grandeur of ZEROBASEONE as history-makers, record-breakers, and game-changers in the K-Pop industry and history.

I do plan to write more about the rest of their awards when possible, so keep an eye out!

ZEROBASEONE and ZEROSE deserve to pat themselves on the backs. It has been a bumpy train, or airplane, ride, but both idol and fandom have traveled far to surprise themselves, everyone in Korea, and around the world. From competing in a cutthroat survival show to finding their footing as humble, talented rookies who became one close-knit family, ZEROBASEONE has hit the ground running with this epic beginning to 2024. In fact, with news of their Japanese debut on YuJin’s birthday (mark your calendars – March 20th!), it’s only a matter of time before what new worlds the group will explore and new skillsets and achievements they’ll obtain. Perhaps they’ll be aiming for Daesang next.

Congratulations again, ZEROBASEONE! May 2024 and beyond bring you more wonderful memories and opportunities to meet ZEROSE across the globe and shine brighter than ever before.
