In recent years, JYPE has faced numerous controversies and scandals, from mistreatment of artists to lack of security and protection. Fans have been increasingly vocal about these issues, demanding that the company takes responsibility and ensures the well-being of their artists.
One of the major concerns raised by fans is the lack of security and protection for their favorite artists. Many incidents have been reported where fans have breached the privacy of JYPE artists, causing them extreme levels of stress and anxiety. This includes artists being followed, harassed, and even receiving death threats. These incidents not only put the physical safety of the artists at risk but also have a detrimental effect on their mental health.
Moreover, fans have pointed out the glaring absence of bodyguards for the artists, especially during airport departures and arrivals. This has led to many instances where JYPE artists have faced physical harm from unruly fans or have been involved in accidents due to insufficient protection. Fans have taken to social media to express their concerns over this issue and have urged the company to take immediate action.
Additionally, JYPE has been accused of trying to use their artists as a shield to protect the company’s image. Fans have noticed a pattern where artists are often left to deal with controversies and hate comments on their own, without any support from the company. This has resulted in the artists’ reputation being tarnished and their mental health suffering.
One Twitter user posted their anger and disappointment, in regards of Division 1 of JYPE mistreating Hyunjin,
“Your lack of support for Hyunjin is becoming pathetic. Providing Hyunjin with little to no security and managers to his domestics and overseas schedules, being late or straight up not posting any of Hyunjinโs official content, the lack of social media management – no reposting of Hyunjinโs interviews on his story, making it harder for fans to find the content from the fashion show and overall just completely unprofessional considering it was done for other artists, not scheduling Hyunjin any fashion films or exclusive content before or after V brand show like you did with your other artists and what other V brand ambassadors (and most, if not all celebrities/idols are to do when attending fashion weeks.) the list goes on and on.
This all ties into the past sabotage and mistreatment over the years. Not taking legal action against malicious commenters and articles, CROPPING Hyunjin out of TWO physical ads and then proceeding to upload it to X/Twitter despite the backlash and not fixing it, making Hyunjin perform when injured and not modifying the choreographyโฆ
This isnโt stuff that was just thrown into the air, weโve created SEVERAL templates regarding all these issues the past three years yet it seems like itโs getting worse and worse. We are happy to see that these posts are trending in Korea while JYPEโs stock are dropping rapidly.
We are not going to allow the company to continue this behavior.”
One example of this is the controversy surrounding JYPE artists, Stray Kids. After member Hyunjin was falsely accused of bullying in school back in 2021, the company remained silent for weeks before issuing a statement. This lack of support and protection for their own artists has outraged fans, who believe that the company should take a more proactive approach in defending their artists from defamation and false accusations.
JYPE is recently accused for deleting a Pannchoa article from Nate, for heavily criticizing the mistreatment on Hyunjin. This action from the company provoked anger from fans and they continued demanding JYPE to take legal action against defamation on their artists immediately.
In addition to the lack of security and protection, fans have also criticized JYPE for unequal promotion of their artists. Many have pointed out that some artists are given more opportunities and resources for their promotions, while others are left with limited exposure and opportunities. This has resulted in a divide among fans and has caused resentment towards the company.
For example, fans demanded JYPE to promote Han fairly since he wanted to participate various activities like participating an OST. Yet the company didn’t even bother to respond.
One Twitter user said, “Han has several times said that he want to do things related to fashion, being MC, collab with other artists & now even drama OST. When will JYPE start giving him proper promotion?”
Fans listed nine reasons why Division 1 failed Han:
1. Han has only 3 solo schedules in his 6 years as an idol.
2. Han’s latest solo schedule was 2 years ago.
3. Division 1 did not post about his appearance on LEE MUJIN SERVICE which was Han’s latest schedule (2022)
4. Han has been consistently wanting to release SKZ-Records like “RESPIRATOR” and been denied.
5. Han hasn’t had any songs/OSTs opportunities outside of group activities.
6. Han hasn’t had any individual brand deals.
7. Han hasn’t had any solo magazine shoots.
8. Han hasn’t had any opportunity to appear in Korean Variety Show individually.
9. Han had never been the thumbnail of any SKZ MV.
A fan posted of summarizing JYPE’s mistreatment towards Stray Kids:
-Bang Chan’s significant decline of screentime in Stray Kids’ content (especially behind-the-scenes and docuseries)
-Lee Know’s solo scheduled opportunities to demonstrate performing dance skills.
-Hyunjin’s lack of security and stylist during his solo schedule on overseas.
-Han’s expression to release solo songs and go on solo content has been ignored by JYPE for the last 6 years with only 3 schedules so far into his career.
– Seungmin & IN’s unequal solo opportunities and also lack of security during overseas’ schedule.
– Felix’s lack of airport security
– Hyunjin’s social media presence in his solo work being ignored
– Stray Kids being overworked and had been getting lesser breaks than usual.
– Chan’s Room getting cancelled.
– Stray Kids’ unequal solo opportunities to grow as artist.
Another example given is that one TikTok user named @herosouplvr (formerly naesviskz) (Twitter username: @rainsoul127) removed Bang Chan’s weekly live program, “Chan’s Room”, because of creating misinformation and false accusations against Bang Chan for speaking on other idols’ manners. And the company? Still silent. This has caused extreme disappointment and anger towards JYPE’s incompetence.
Fans have been vocal about these issues for a long time, but their voices were largely ignored. However, with the recent scandals and controversies becoming more frequent, fans have united to demand that JYPE takes concrete steps to protect their artists and give them equal opportunities for promotion.
In response to the outcries from fans, JYPE before issued statement acknowledging their mistakes and promising to take necessary actions to improve their management. However, fans are not satisfied with just “empty” words and are demanding that the company implements tangible changes to protect their artists.
In conclusion, JYPE has a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of their artists, both physically and mentally. The company needs to take a more proactive approach in protecting their artists from harm and defending them from false accusations. Fans are expecting concrete actions from the company and will continue to demand accountability until the necessary changes are made. It’s high time that JYPE realizes the importance of managing their artists effectively and puts the well-being of their artists as a top priority.
