No Brain is a 25-year-old punk act that represents Korean Indie Rock. Their well-made EP [Big Mistake] is finally released after 8 years from the production.

On 2013, Seymour Stein, the cofounder of Sire Records and the Vice President of Warner Bros, fell in love with No Brain’s energetic music and attitude shown at the performance at SXSW. The very next day, Stein met up with No Brain to offer a signing deal to release their first international album. That was the first time in Sire Records’ 47-year history, signing a band from Korea. Julian Raymond, who also produced Cheap Trick participated as an executive producer of the project. He chose the EastWest Studios, the exact studio where David Bowie’s [Raw Power] was made, and Chris Lord-Alge, the 5 time Grammy winning mix engineer has participated in the production.

No Brain was about to perform at U.S. starting from 2013, but they had to come back to Korea because of some troubles with their record company, meanwhile, Raymond moved from Warner Music to Big Machine Records.

It took 8 years to solve this problem and the decision has finally been made to release this album!!

You’ll love this well-made album with the most incredible production. It’ll be a BIG MISTAKE if you don’t listen to this music.

Shin Hye Sung, a main vocalist from SHINHWA – the longest running idol group in Korea, teamed up with ‘OST Queen’ LYn (Moon embracing the Sun, My Love From the Star…) for a duet called ‘Buen Camino’. This song is a remake of the track with the same title from Shin Hye Sung’s solo album called [Love of May](This album is marked as the most sales among any member of SHINHWA’s solo albums.). The original song was performed with singer-songwriter Kang Susie.

Buen camino, which means have a good trip in Spanish, is perfect song as a K-pop top duet, and it features sorrowful but beautiful lyrics and sweet melodies about breakup. Although it was not the title song at the time, it drew big attention due to the collaboration of two vocalists representing the 90s and the 00s of K-pop. Unfortunately, there is no live performance with LYn, but you can find the video with Kang Susie in 2005. Don’t miss it below.

*Kang Susie is one of the leading female singers of the 90s in Korea. Her iconic long dress and hat made a trend of the day and are still talk of the town about today. She wrote the lyrics for almost all of her songs including her biggest hit, Violet Fragrance.

The rising singer-songwriter mool, with a clear and calm tone resembling calm water (like her name ‘mool’ which means ‘water’ in Korean), is releasing the second single [Loss]. The new song is about someone who tries to find the meaning of life by making very small actions like brushing teeth, trying some fruits, writing a diary… When you don’t find any interest in your life, ‘mool’ suggests to do small things like that to feel a sense of pride from ‘little but big’ accomplishments. With this message that anyone can relate to, ‘Loss’ would give the listeners comfort with an ironically bright mood behind its gloomy lyrics. We strongly recommend this song. Trust me, you’ll love it!

Big Baby Driver

 

Big Baby Driver is ready to share her old-hidden tracks which reminds you of an old song accidentally heard on an LP.

A one-man band Big Baby Driver, who makes music that blends into everyday life, releases another EP [Remainder]. Unlike the previous album [Leftover] released in February, this album is filled with retro and bluesy songs that remind you of an old song accidentally heard on an LP record or radio with a little crackling sound. Actually most of the tracks are old, already made years ago, and Big Baby Driver tried to fit them in this new album by adding various instruments like organ, or synthesizer, and new lyrics. She calls this album an ‘archiving series’. The 5 tracks are not too heavy and has a simple, comforting vibe, good to listen while walking or reading.

Singer-songwriter YOON WON, loved by the indie music fans, is back with his new single [I AM YOU]. The new song ‘I AM YOU’ is a ballad about a man who’s still living in the past memories of love, still waiting for the love to come back. The man says “I can’t be myself without you anymore. I AM (only me when I’m with) YOU”. YOON WON’s comfortable and sweet voice matches well with the warm tone of the guitar and the drum base. Especially, the drum base and melody reminds you of the early 2000’s K-drama OSTs.
