‘Time to be Strong’/ ‘Cheer Up’ is an indie film that came out in 2022, the story itself follows three failed K-Pop idols who travel to Jeju in hopes of experiencing that school trip that they never had. Throughout this time period, the trio eventually confronts more troubles and fallouts along their said journey, from experiencing lost luggage, cash shortage, funny moments, relatable moments of youth and much more. The film itself would go on to win the best team work award in 2022 at the SBS Drama Awards and would go on to describe the drama as “A well beloved story about the dreams and passion of youth, the drama highlighted the passionate actors teamwork, which was just as strong as the energy in the drama” where everyone on the cast would later go on to win a trophy for the film.
The film itself is one of my favourite newest discoveries, with a relatable and loveable cast. It was actually even commissioned and produced by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, the cast itself consisting of the three main characters: Taehee (played by Hyeon Wooseok), Sa-rang (played by Ha Seo Yoon) and Soomin who is played by Choi Sung-eun.
As stated in the article by The Korea Herald’s writer Moon Ki-hoon: “the film finds its rhythm though when it steps back from grand statements to focus on the personal repercussions, observing its broken young protagonists with empathy. Its a tightrope act on display that occasionally edges towards self pity but ultimately manages to avoid wallowing in it.”
You can find the full drama on VIKI or other streaming sites that offer the film.
