A Filipino THE B Talks About Her Favorite Group THE BOYZ And Her Bias Jacob

There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other.

So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.

 

Heart is the next fan to answer our questions. She is from The Philippines and is a fan of THE BOYZ, and particularly of Jacob! Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more!

 

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

Hi! My name is Heart and I’m from the Philippines. I’ve been a K-Pop fan since 2017 and I started my THE B journey during December 2020.

 

How and when did you enter the fandom?

I was watching MAMA 2020 and the performance of THE BOYZ caught my attention. I was so impressed by the royalty concept of their ‘Reveal’ + ‘Checkmate’ performance entitled, “Open the hell-gate + The Beginning of the end” so I ended up looking them up on YouTube to watch their previous performances. Soon, I learned that it was actually a teaser for their participation on the Mnet show “Kingdom” after claiming and winning first place in “Road to Kingdom”.

 

What are the reasons why you love your favorite group?

They came into my life so unexpectedly but I ended up loving them so easily because I saw how passionate they were whenever they performed. Aside from their good looks and charisma, each of them is unique and so talented. One of the factors that also made me fall in love with them is how they treat their fans and the people around them. Whenever they thank their fans for the support they are receiving, it always feels so genuine. They never made THE Bs doubt their love. Some of the people they worked with in the past also shared that they are impressed by their professionalism, their politeness, and dedication in performing behind the scenes.

 

Who caught your attention at first and why?

The first member of THE BOYZ that caught my attention was SangYeon. He is the leader or the president of the group and one of the main vocalists. I truly believe that he is one the best main vocalists of their generation.

 

Who is your bias, and why?

It took me a while before I finally had a bias because I tried to know their discography and personalities first but from the moment I saw Jacob’s A to BOYZ cover of ‘I.F.L.Y.’ by Bazzi, my mind told me “It’s him” and my heart immediately favored him. Jacob is the second eldest, the vice president of the group and one of the lead vocalists in THE BOYZ. He is known for his sweet voice and his angel-like personality. Aside from singing, he can also rap and is an amazing dancer. There’s always an element of surprise when it comes to him because he always shows different sides of himself whenever they perform which is one of the main reasons why he became my bias.

 

Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans?

I’d recommend the title track ‘No Air’ from their 3rd mini album called “The Only” for new fans so they can hear how soothing their vocals are and to show how in sync they are whenever they perform.

 

For a B-side track, I’d recommend the song ‘Survive The Night’ from their 7th mini album called “Be Aware”. The lyrics were written by one of the members, SunWoo, who is the main rapper of the group and it reflects their feelings and is a letter to the fans who they were not able to meet for a very long time because of the pandemic.

 

Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or content video of your group to our readers?

For people who want to know more about THE BOYZ, I’d recommend watching “Identity Film: Generation Z”…

 

… and “Be Your Own King”. These two contents perfectly display who they are as a group and individually as artists. They’ve expressed their thoughts about being an idol and showed their uniqueness in these videos. For performances, I’d recommend their stages in “Road to Kingdom” and “Kingdom”.

 

Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics?

One of my favorite song lyrics is from their song ‘Daydream’ which goes “너와 내가 이어져있던 별에서 다시 만나” which roughly translates to “Me, You, let’s meet again at the stars”. It is a line often conveyed during the concerts of THE BOYZ. It’s heartwarming and shows hopefulness for the future of THE BOYZ and THE Bs.

 

Are there any words from the members you would like to share?

“It’s okay to not be okay.” – Kevin. A quote often shared by Kevin to remind THE Bs that our feelings are valid, whatever they might be.
“I love you the most who is with me right now where I’m receiving the most love.” – New. A line said by New when a THE B expressed their regret about not being a THE B sooner. It shows his genuine and unconditional love to all THE Bs.
“There’s no success without happiness, so just live happily.” – Jacob. It’s his motto and it’s a great reminder that at the end of the day, your happiness is what matters the most, so just do everything that makes you happy.

 

Can you recommend a cute or funny video (30s)/gif of your bias to our readers?

It’s a video from “Weekly Idol’ when they were promoting their comeback song, ‘DDD’. All of the members had to do aegyo and my bias was a natural. The first member in the video is Jacob.

 

What’s your favourite 2022 moment involving your bias?

I couldn’t choose a specific moment but I was so happy to see him and THE BOYZ meet The Bs around the world during their “THE B ZONE” tour. They finally saw how huge the fandom have grown and how successful they are now. I hope that seeing the fans made them more confident somehow because we really want to show them how proud we are to be THE Bs.

 

Name a variety show/content show that you would love to see your bias on? Tell us why.

There are several shows that I want to see them in but the first shows that came to my mind are “Running Man” and Dingo Music’s “Killing Voice”. Most members of THE BOYZ, including my bias, are competitive so it would be fun to see them playing games and doing challenges in “Running Man”. Dingo Music’s “Killing Voice” is a great platform for artists to showcase their vocals and I believe that THE BOYZ is powerful in that area so I want to see them do that content as well.

 

Can you describe your bias in only one word?

If I could describe my bias in one word, it would be “light”. Jacob Bae always brings positivity and happiness to the people around him. He’s the type of person that you would want to meet and have in your life.

 

What is your favorite group/bias’ influence on your daily life?

They give me motivation through their actions and words, they’ve brought so much happiness to my life and I’ve met some great friends when I joined their fandom which I’m truly grateful for.
