Are you also curious about fellow K-Pop fans?! Let’s hear their stories and interests in Kpopmap Fan Interview Project.
There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’s stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other.
So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.
Jei is the next fan to answer our questions. She is from the Philippines and is a fan of THE BOYZ, and particularly of SangYeon! Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more!
Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?
Hi, I go by the name of “Jei” and I’m a THE B from Philippines!
How and when did you enter the fandom?
It started when it was pandemic lockdown and I’m finding new things to be busy with to kill the boredom. One day, a friend has messaged me that there’s a new show wherein her favorite group was also included. She has asked me if we can watch it together with her so I could also check out her favorite group’s performance there. It turns out that it was MNET’s “Road to KINGDOM”, wherein THE BOYZ has also participated. We were watching the week where my friend’s favorite group was performing and when she said that she’ll stop watching after her group finishes performing, I told her to let’s watch until the end. And so we did, and omg…. No one knew how much I was amazed about the last group’s performance…. They performed TaeMin’s ‘Danger’! And woah, I kind of had the nicest decision of finishing the certain episode of the week until THE BOYZ performed. I didn’t know that from that day, I was going to be a THE B because of the crazy good finale level performance and that good-looking guy that sings well who jumped back and slid down the table (See timestamp 03:00 on the video below) on that specific performance.
What are the reasons why you love your favorite group?
It was actually the group’s dynamics and how they trust the fandom with their thoughts. They are also always trying to work hard presenting their best (and they never fail on doing that) and as well as good songs! THE BOYZ are all-rounders so they’re really likable to me.
Who caught your attention at first and why?
As mentioned on the previous question, I was stunned by the good-looking guy who jumped back and slid down on the table while he was singing hahaha! It was THE BOYZ’s leader, SangYeon.
Who is your bias, and why?
My bias is SangYeon, right from the start and up until today. The man is a well-rounded guy from being the leader (or on a much better term, THE BOYZ members are also addressing him which is “class president”), he is also a main vocalist of the group! He sings well and his voice sounds so serenading it would also melt your ears. He is also a funny guy, without even trying to be funny you would be laughing when he just casually tells a funny scenario (or maybe I’m just whipped for SangYeon).
Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans?
For a title track, I would personally recommend ‘No Air’ and ‘Reveal’. Those 2 tracks are very unique from one another whereas you could see 2 different persona of THE BOYZ. For ‘Reveal’, I would personally suggest that after watching and listening to the original track, new fans could try watching ‘Reveal (Catching Fire)’, their performance in MNET’s “Road to KINGDOM”, for them to be able to see a new perspective of the song and its concept. It prove how THE BOYZ could pull off any concept and they will absolutely do justice for it.
For a B-side, I have pretty much a lot of favorite B-sides… First of all, from their recent album “Be Aware”, there is a B-side titled ‘C.O.D.E.’ It just gives me a happy feeling while listening to it especially when I am working! Another one is ‘Daydream’. From the title itself the melody of the song sounds and feels dreamy too. If you are outside relaxing and chilling after a long tiring day, ‘Daydream’ brings me comfort.
Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your bias to our readers?
For a fancam, I would recommend SangYeon’s ‘Whisper’ face cam, I like seeing SangYeon smiling while performing and his smile is very contagious! For a bit spicy fancam hmmmm… just search SangYeon’s ‘Hypnotized’ fancams hahaha!
Cover video, this is hands down my favorite of all time when he covered John Park’s ‘Childlike’. As I have also mentioned on the previous question that his voice sounds like a serenade and also a very soothing one. This is the cover I personally liked. I really like it when SangYeon sings so I am also recommending the readers about SangYeon’s karaoke lives, where he just casually sings some songs and some song requests from the fans.
SangYeon also has Soundcloud releases: ‘Day Off’ and ‘돌아갈래’, which was released on Children’s Day in Korea and also features the youngest members of THE BOYZ: Ju HakNyeon, SunWoo and Eric.
Interested in photography and film cameras? SangYeon is also interested in it too! Check out his #FilmOpen shots on THE BOYZ members twitter account (@WE_THE_BOYZ).

Can you also do the same type of recommendation for the group?
These are the shows I personally recommend to be enjoyed by the readers and the future new THE Bs!
“Come On! THE BOYZ” (this has 5 series: Come On! The Boyz, Summer RPG, The Boyz School, The Boyz in NY and God Saeng). These can all be found in YouTube and is available with subtitles.
“The 100” (V Live) and “THE BOYZ Flower Snack” (YouTube), are their pre debut shows.
For shorter contents, I recommend THE BOYZ’s Mafia Games because they’re very hilarious at reasoning with their alibi during the game and a very chaotic and funny content.
THE BOYZ also has a series of short contents wherein they’re featured for covers with “THE SPACE” and “A to Boyz”
I also feel like the readers would also enjoy their identity films (“Generation Z” and “Be Your Own King”) which shows their individual messages from theirselves and how they want and present their real selves.
Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics?
It was SangYeon’s written lyrics from ‘Timeless’, “그리웠던 공백은 지워 버리고 남아있는 빈칸을 너로 채울래?” (“I’ll erase the blank space that I missed you and fill the blanks with you.”)
Are there any words from the members you would like to share?
SangYeon once shared on the “Be Your Own King” interview saying that, “I think it’s right to focus on the stages and results that will leave a good impression by working hard, not on the rankings”. It has left me an impact and made me respect him as the leader of the group has raised once again. Being a leader must not be easy and since the K-Pop scene is such a competitive nature, I liked how he acknowledges that being competitive is fine but what’s great is that you’ll be leaving an impressive mark for other people to remember how good you are whether as a performer, a member of a group or as a person yourself.
For you, what is your bias’ best stage outfits until now? Please share a picture or fan cam.
This is honestly a difficult question hahaha! I’ve liked several outfits of SangYeon but to name some, I think I’ll go with this ‘Bloom Bloom’ fits they’ve worn before. The makeup itself is so cute and very proper of the concept
What is your biggest dream for your favorite group/bias aside from being happy and healthy?
I wish for SangYeon to be casted as an actor for a drama and also a musical actor would be great!
Can you recall a moment where you cried/laughed with your bias?
SangYeon is such a funny guy and would be effortless in making you laugh (and the members). For the time I shed a tear for him, it was during I watched “KINGDOM: LEGENDARY WAR” after they finished the stage and he was so overwhelmed to the point that he cried. He cried because he felt so proud of THE BOYZ after that performance but I hope that he also felt proud for himself that time as a leader.
Would you like to see your bias group in variety shows? What type of variety show would you like them to do?
I’d like SangYeon to do “Off the Grid”. It’s a program under Discovery Channel Korea and it’s a travel variety show where the casts spend their time alone somewhere with a relaxing vibe. SangYeon enjoys taking photos using his film camera so I think he’ll like having this kind of variety show.
What is your favorite group/bias’ influence on your daily life?
While I started getting to know THE BOYZ, I was also a struggling university student that time that is going through endless all-nighters just to pull off my final thesis so I could graduate. THE BOYZ’s music and contents has helped me to be able to take a break and reward myself of watching their contents after I finish a task or listen to their song while I’m working on my documents. Thankfully, I finished university and was also able to graduate with high honors. I especially thank not only THE BOYZ (but also shoutout to GOT7) for making my stressful university days a little bit better and happier.
What is your favorite side of fangirling/fanboying?
Meeting new friends who shares the same interests as mine and screaming with them whenever there are exciting or sometimes upsetting stuffs going on!
