What makes a perfect K-Pop idol? Many would probably answer attractive appearance, outstanding singing and dancing skills, and charismatic personality – Kim JaeJoong certainly has it all.

First introduced as Hero JaeJoong from one of the most renowned 2nd gen boy groups TVXQ back in December 2003, Kim JaeJoong has navigated a tough journey throughout his entertainment career. After leaving TVXQ while filing a lawsuit against SM Entertainment, he formed another boy group JYJ with two other teammates in 2010 and later released his first solo album in 2013.

After JYJ went on a hiatus since 2015, Kim JaeJoong continued with his solo career by releasing several Korean and Japanese albums and starring in TV series and variety shows. In May this year, he even founded his own entertainment agency iNKODE, which he serves as the Chief Strategy Officer, to produce new idol groups and manage his own activities.

In the past two decades, Kim JaeJoong has evolved from an idol boy group member into an all-rounded and skilful artist and entrepreneur. However, his soulful voice, prince-like visual (as suggested by his nickname “Visual Shock”), and friendly character have remained unchanged, making him adored by millions of BOSS BABIES (his fandom) particularly in Japan and Korea even until today. Earlier this month, Kim JaeJoong was even awarded the “Top of K-Pop Record Award” and “Best Choice Award” at the 2023 Asia Artist Awards, proving his enduring popularity globally.

This month marks the 20th anniversary of Kim JaeJoong’s debut. As we celebrate this significant milestone in his stardom life, let’s delve into the story of Kaitlyn, who has been following Kim JaeJoong for 10 years, as she shares her encounter, unforgettable memories with Kim JaeJoong, favorite songs and contents from him, and much more!

Can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello! My name is Kaitlyn and I have been loving Kim JaeJoong for 10 years. I started to learn Korean in high school because I wanted to know his language and converse with him one day. Acquiring this language, I went on an exchange in Korea and I’m now studying for a master’s degree in Korea. I feel like he has been influencing my life positively because I could have never experienced these things if I was not a BOSS BABIES!

How and when did you enter the fandom?

When I was in primary school, my friend always talked about how handsome JaeJoong is XD. I got to know him at that time but I wasn’t his fan yet. In 2013, I watched the music video of his song ‘Mine’ and was attracted by this song. ‘Mine’ is a rock song with stunning melodies and visual presentations. I just can’t even use any words to describe how good this song is, and JaeJoong is extremely handsome in the music video!

What makes Kim JaeJoong your favorite K-Pop idol?

JaeJoong has a very beautiful voice and can sing various types of songs very well. I personally like his ballad and rock songs the most. He also speaks Japanese like a native and has released lots of songs in Japan. Most importantly, he is always nice and friendly to everyone, including other artists and fans. He interacts with fans very closely during concerts, which makes every concert unique and memorable. He is just perfectly talented and kind.

Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, or cover video, of Kim JaeJoong?

He covered the song ‘Though I Loved You’ in his 2013 mini concert. I cried after seeing this performance. He sang really really well!!

Can you also recommend a content video (variety series, radio show, drama etc.) of Kim JaeJoong?

JaeJoong was such a funny boy in this variety show. 녹수 (the character he played in the show) was very beautiful! XD

What is your favorite title track and B-side track from Kim JaeJoong?

My favorite title track is ‘Mine’, which made me enter the fandom. It is just… visual shock!!

The B-side track I like most is a song called ‘Good Luck’. The lyrics are interesting. XD

What is your favorite album from Kim JaeJoong?

My favorite album is “WWW.” It contains mainly rock songs and some ballads. When you see the album cover, you’ll know why I like it the most…

What kind of songs would you like Kim JaeJoong to try out in his 20th anniversary album?

I would like him to include all types of songs he has been singing throughout these years in his 20th anniversary album. I personally really miss his rock songs and wanna see him dance!

Can you share your experiences going to Kim JaeJoong’s concerts and fan meetings?

Although I have watched many of his concerts and fan meetings in Hong Kong, the one in 2020 was the first time I went to his solo concert in Korea. I attended the concert two days in a row. I was very surprised that the lady sitting next to me was a BOSS BABIES in her 40s. We talked a lot about JaeJoong and enjoyed the show together. Maybe I will go to his concert alone when I become 40 years old! He even improvised trot songs in the concert and I had so much fun HAHA!

I actually bought Kim JaeJoong’s official lightstick a few days ago. Hopefully I can use it in his concert soon!
