A Malaysian THE B Talks About Her Favorite Group THE BOYZ And Her Bias Q

There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other.

So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.

 

Aena is the next fan to answer our questions. She is from Malaysia and is a fan of THE BOYZ, and particularly of Q! Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more!

 

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

Hello, I go by the name “Aena” and I’m a THE B from Malaysia!

 

How and when did you enter the fandom?

I firstly knew the member YoungHoon from the web drama “Love Revolution” and also at the same time watching the survival show THE BOYZ was in, “Road To Kingdom”. I realized it then that YoungHoon is in THE BOYZ and started to watch all their performances from the survival show. I was so amazed by their performance and started to root for them. I remember my little brother used to kept replaying their “REVEAL (Catching Fire)” on TV as he was super amazed by the performance. Funny because I was annoyed at first by how he kept rewatching it everytime he got the TV for himself but then… the song got stuck in my head for days and caught myself singing to it hahah. Because of that I finally added the song into my playlist. I started to added more of their songs and watched their contents from YouTube and fell for their charms and their love to the fans seems so genuine. I’ve been stanning them since then ><.

 

What are the reasons why you love your favorite group?

The reasons love I THE BOYZ is because their love for their fans are so genuine and I can see how they always thought of their fans in everything they do. I love how they trust their fans and not afraid to share their honest thoughts. They always came to reassure fans if they’re something happened and that made me feel so touched by how they took care of us so much. Their teamwork is unmatched too. I also love how the members always try take part in creating contents like “JuYeon Lee’s Walking With Someone”, uploading song covers on Soundcloud, uploading “A To BOYZ” (song/dance covers), composing, lyrics writing and many more! Through that, I can feel the sincereness they’re trying to relay to their fans.

 

Who caught your attention at first and why?

The first member that caught attention was actually SunWoo because I was so captivated by his charm and visual when I watched “THE BOYZ X LOONA Blinding Lights” stage on “Gayo Daejejeon 2020”.

 

Who is your bias, and why?

After watching more of their contents, I fell for Q because of his unique charm and the cute side of him. Fans even gave him a nickname “Squirrel” because when he eats, he stuff the food in his cheeks >< Then as I watched more contents of Q and discovered more about him I was shocked.. That he is actually one of the main dancer in the group!! Don’t get me wrong though because that time I watched more of their reality contents than their stages heheh. Since then I started to watched more of their stages and he did stand out!!! His body control is ridiculously good I was shocked.. I was mind-blown everytime he’s in the center and leading the dance breaks. He also has a solid and very soothing voice. I was surprised when I knew he used to be tone-deaf and now he has improved like A LOT and I love his voice so much. One thing that I respect him a lot is that he is such a hardworker and try to be a perfectionist in everything he do. The members also said these themselves. As Q always lead the group in dance practices sometimes together with JuYeon. Also despite of his cute face and acts, I was surprised that he is very much interested in horror stuffs hahah and even own a chucky and annabelle given by fans. I swear he has so much different charms.

 

Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans?

For the title track I would reccomend ‘REVEAL’ and ‘Bloom Bloom’ . This 2 songs shows 2 different sides of them and it shows how THE BOYZ is very much capable of doing lots of cncepts. As for ‘REVEAL’, it’s the song that got me into the fandom that’s why I recommend it hehe >< This song show more of their mature and sexy side. The whole song is so catchy, the bridge and chorus are so addictive. The raps are also very good and catchy!! I love the whole concept of this song! And as for ‘Bloom Bloom’, it shows more of their aegyo and cute side. The song is also very refreshing, catchy and makes you feel like dancing along!!

 

As for their B-side.. I love most of their B-sides but recently I’ve been listening to ‘Survive The Night’ a lot so I’ll recommend this song! This song was specially written by their member SunWoo! I really love the lyrics and the melody of the songs. It’s a perfect song to listen to when you’re taking walk :’).

 

Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your bias to our readers?

For fancams I would recommend you to watch his ‘REVEAL’ and ‘WHISPER’ fancams. You can clearly see how he plays with his facial expression. His facial expressions are always on point. You can also clearly see how clean he executed all the dance moves ugh it’s sooo satisfying to watchhh.

 

My all time favourite V Live of Q is from 200724. His voice was just so calming. Literally the whole live was very calming for me so I really like it :’) The other V Live that I like is from 210323. Just him fanboying to girlgroup songs ugh shows a lot of his good taste in music. Love to see when he got all excited when he remembers the lyrics or the dance moves of the songs from earlier generation hahah.
For cover videos, I would very much recommend his season related song covers he posted on YouTube! He has covered ‘Dandelion’ by Oohyo, ‘Summer Night’ by Herz Analog, and ‘Goodbye, Fall’ by Rocoberry in just 2022!! 3 song covers in a year is such a huge accomplishment for him because he was not confident enough in himself (but he did SOOO good!!!) Oh and winter song is coming soon this year as he didn’t get the time to uploaded them last year!

 

For cover dance theres A LOTT. I especially love his “A To BOYZ “, where he dance to Conan Gray’s ‘Maniac’ and his infamous Mario dance cover. From these covers alone you can see how insane his body control is. Not just that, he also killed the face expressions. That’s how good he is as an artist.

 

Can you also do the same type of recommendation for the group?

For the whole group contents, I’d recommend their pre-debut shows, “Flower Snack” and “The 100”.

 

I also recommend the “Come On! THE BOYZ” series!! This series was super fun to watch I personally love it so much!

 

My other personal favourites are their identity film “Generation Z” and “Be Your Own King” because you get to hear their realest-selves and honest thoughts!

 

Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics?

It was the lyrics Q wrote for ‘Timeless’:
“늘 그랬듯이 늘 같은 노래처럼 함께 하면 돼 we’ll be happy ever after” (“As always just like the same timeless song, we just need to be together, we’ll be happy ever after”).

 

Are there any words from the members you would like to share?

Q’s words that I try to live by is “In a life where you only live once, let’s live a happy and fun life!”

 

What is your favorite group/bias’ influence on your daily life?

I think they influenced me a lot in becoming a hardworker. Seeing how they worked so hard to present their best selves to us fans even pressuring themselves to the core, I learned a lot from that. To achieve good results you need to always do your best and never give up. Their music and their support helps me go through lots of my hard times. When I’m at my lowest I felt comforted by listening to their songs and their warm words. Just by a simple “오늘도 수고했엉“ made me feel like I did a great job after a long day.

 

What is your favorite side of fangirling/fanboying?

I made lots of new friends not just from my country but from lot of other countries as well! I think thats the charm of fangirling because you got to meet people who has the same interest as you and naturally became friends with each other.
