A Universe talks about her favourite stars, Pentagon in all to know guide

Can you give a brief introduction about yourself, how you got into kpop in general?

Hi I am a writer on Kpop-map who likes to discuss music, music ideals and concepts, and various artists. Please call me by my username ‘BeBe’ which is apart of MONSTA X’s fandom name ‘Monbebe’ and ‘Carat’ which includes Seventeen’s fandom name ‘Carat’. ‘BeBeCarat’.

Regarding how I got into Kpop, I am as a ‘pre debut’ fan as you can get originally learning about Seventeen through their mixtapes on SoundCloud, although I will admit I missed a lot of milestones and wouldn’t hear about youtube until late 2017/ early 2018 due to my brother telling me about the platform had 5SOS (another band I like) upon the platform themselves. The more I began to learn and listen to ‘Kpop playlists’ on SoundCloud, I would come across songs like VIXX’s OST for the K Drama ‘Moorim Highschool’ and B2ST’s ‘Rainy day’ and ‘Good luck’ which would be some of my first official songs in the genre. Followed slowly but surely by B.A.P, Wanna One, N.Flying, MONSTA X. I would later hear about iKON, Winner, BigBang and BTS who I would become avid fans of for years before learning about Cube Entertainment and Pentagon. I would later join Vlive to support these groups.

Do you have any group merchandise by Pentagon or the members?

Originally I wanted to get a ring or some clothing from fellow Pentagon member ‘Yuto’ genderless fashion company which he set up last year or so but it was really hard to get internationally even through a re shipping service. I really enjoy his style and a variety of his designs. But during my peek fan days I managed to get a IN:VITE U MD ring only available in Korea with photocards  and all member signed Ceremony album which was one of the first albums I ever listened to (next to B.A.P’s Honeymoon).

When did Pentagon debut? How were they formed?

Originally they were formed through a competition show of different challenges and tasks called [ Pentagon Maker ] and would later determine the following 10 members to debut as ‘Pentagon’. Jinho, Hui, Hongseok, YeoOne, Yuto, Kino and Wooseok would be the first to be officially confirmed to join the group. Later on, Shinwon, E Dawn (now known as ‘Dawn’) and Yanan. A lot of competition ‘survival’ shows are often hard to watch for many fans and are not always recommend, personally I have only watched some clips and highlights here and there but have not fully watched the show to fully give my opinion.

They would later debut on October 10th 2016 with ‘Gorilla’. Even if you don’t know their debut, there’s no doubt you probably heard one of their most popular songs, ‘Shine’ at least one point in your K-Pop journey.

What different/unique facts can you tell us about the members and your bias?

When it comes to Pentagon and the large amount of members, and my own personal view on ‘bias’ itself. I don’t think I really have a ‘bias’, I like all the members within the group and sometimes depending on the day or depending on the solo activity or solo release picks my ‘favourite’ member for that day so to say. Although at first it would be Dawn, I think Shinwon and Wooseok definitely hold a re occuring spot.

Before when I previously had weverse, Shinwon not only complimented one of my photos I took and said it was really pretty, but would go on to later like my fan letter where I would show him some more photos I took and my view of the Northern Lights, stars and moons.

While Wooseok would take over a radio show from Shinwon and has been an active dj and radio host since then. The show (as of now) takes place every week, I have previously written about it which you can view here. [ Everything to know about Pentagon Jung Wooseok (Woodi’s) radio show ].

Do you have a favourite unit or solo debut?

I do! Although it is actually not considered a Pentagon sub unit, back in the dawn Hyuna got put into a sub/unit with Pentagon Hui and Dawn (E Dawn), and is a song that I worked out to for a very long time. Although his stage name starts with E/Dawn, the unit would be called Triple H due to their names and would later release ‘365 fresh’ as their unit/group/trio debut song.

Triple H comeback, ‘Retro Future’.

Although I do love Kino’s voice and stylist choices, Wooseok’s solo debut is a song that just fits my current music taste more, especially considering picking up an electric guitar myself and trying to teach myself guitar. I really enjoy this type of music as I step away from Kpop altogether. His debut is my favourite for sure.

Do you have a favourite series/content featured or by the members you want to suggestion new fans or readers? What would it be?

So usually before I write something I write it put it in drafts, edit and come back to it a little later and edit it to music. When doing this, three things came to me at first: A cover performed by Kino and Jinho way back in 2020 with a song called ‘Gravity’. From my understand Jinho does a series where he covers his favourite songs, those he listens to and introduces his music taste to us. It was something they started back in Pentagon’s early days and he showcases his talents and is one of the more known vocalist even not in Pentagon. He was originally from SM Entertainment and would beat EXO Xuimin’s and take first place, even debuting in SM’s team ‘The Ballad’, later in his career and in my most recent article, he would be the first idol ever to make history on Phantom Singer. Although he would not win, the team he competed with would later debut underneath the name ‘CREZL’ and have been promoting together.

Although he’s not my ‘bias’ by any means, his voice is something I really enjoy and think he’s really talented. He deserves a lot of positive attention and I believe full heartily.

My favourite filmed magazine ho, ‘#56 Moments’.

When you were really into K-Pop, who were the top groups you liked to talk about and or ‘promote’?. Either on forums or other discussion based sites. Is there anything there that you would want to recommend to new fans or intrigued readers?

For me a big thing I would always talk about is how unquie Pentagon and Universe ‘relationship’ is. They will put us in our place if we get out of hand and remind us about our own image. Making sure to keep ourselves healthy and to love ALL members of the group not just one. Something Hongseok has done recently (aside from working out more seriously), is even promoting other members in his Instagram stories and suggesting songs to fans.

One of those that made me smile, was the story where he was listening to fellow Pentagon’s member Kino solo debut song ‘Pose’. Kino would also watch Wooseok’s solo debut stage in a weverse livestream exchanging the love and attention back. It’s something pretty rare and unique.

Regarding my final statement, I know that even if I’m in my 20’s there’s a lot more ‘fans’ with far more experience and advice that can be given then I can. And although I think wanting to become a fan of someone is really good, we can’t loose ourselves along the way and become a completely different or negative person. Pushing ourselves deeper into the fandom although it could be viewed as a good thing it could be pretty negative as well. I think the most important thing is finding something that makes you happy but also realizing idols are people just like us. Don’t push them to much, you aren’t exactly their ‘friend’ but you respect each other and talk with each other and that’s okay. Healthily boundaries are super important and I hope people don’t forget to take care of their own mental health when discovering a new hobby or group.

Never take anything a fan says to heart, a lot of people are hurting in their own lives, when it comes to sites like twitter people troll just to troll, you have every right to block, ingore and just enjoy Kpop by whatever that means to you. You are never a bad or good fan for not doing something, take care of you and respect the artists.

With that said, Pentagon are currently acting as solo acts and have had small reunions here and then, so consider checking out the members SNS (social medias) or the groups platforms. Despite what some say, the members have assured us they are still Pentagon even out of Cube. So if you want to show your support and become a Universe, its highly welcomed. Just be safe and have fun!
