Pre-debut Life: Inspired By The Greats

Jake has been a trainee under ChoCo Entertainment since he was 12 years old.

In 2013, he dreamt of becoming an artist who sings and dances whilst watching idols like BIGBANG and BTS who showed powerful performances. He took a steady interest in dancing as it excited him, dancing along to songs on YouTube. Before ChoCo, he had no stage experience. In fact, his first public performance was in 2017, outside his grandmother’s house. In 2018, he started working as a kids’ model and participated in fashion shows and photoshoots.

TMI Interview: Get To Know More About ChoCo’s Jake

Kpopmap had the pleasure of getting in touch with Jake to get to know some TMI facts about him. We talked about his favorite self-produced music, recent slang he’s learned these days, and more.

Which of the songs that you’ve written and produced so far is your favorite?

‘McDonald In The Space’ is the title of the song. Although the production quality may not be extremely high, I believe it is the most complete among the self-composed songs I have worked on when lyrics are added. The theme of this song is unique, so I am curious to know how the public will react when they listen to it. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about space, and the idea of, “What if McDonald’s existed in space?” suddenly came to mind. So, I started working on the song. I think I might be the first person to come up with this theme, or even if someone else had thought of it before, I believe I am the first one to turn it into a song. You can enjoy this song with a fantastic visualizer on the ChoCo YouTube channel!

What is the last song that you listened to before answering this interview?

Right before starting the interview, I was listening to ‘Not So Bad (Leans Gone Cold)’ by Rae Sremmurd. I was stretching in the morning and listening to Rae Sremmurd’s recent album “Sremm 4 Life”. Interestingly, the song that came up while finishing my stretching happened to be my favorite track from the album.

What is the most recent slang/newly-coined word that you’ve learned? Or which one do you use the most?

I can’t think of any newly coined words at the moment. I’m not someone who uses a lot of slang, so ironically, the term ‘inssa’ (a Korean term for an insider or popular person) that has been around for a while is the word I use the most.

Would you rather have every dessert you eat include mint chocolate in some way or never be able to eat dessert ever again?

Definitely number 1. I am a fan of mint, so whenever I have a dessert with mint chocolate, I am very happy. It’s a small pleasure for me.

What do you care about the most these days?

Jelly candies (gummy sweets). I want to try every jelly candy in the world. I’m currently staying in the United States, and there are so many diverse jelly candies here. I’ve always loved jelly candy, but my love for it has grown even more. Even if it ruins my teeth, eating every jelly candy in the world is on my bucket list in life.

Jake is already proving to be a diligent force to be reckoned with. We can’t wait to see what he’ll do over the next few years of his career.
