With summer ending officially for many individuals and the school year starting, there are numerous releases within the music scene as we enter September. Some artists are even getting ready for Halloween early, taking inspiration from numerous works or referencing their favourite artists, scenes, or doing something a little out of the ordinary or what we are used to in the music scene.
Christian Yu (Also known as DPR IAN) and one of the main creatives and heads of the official visual team “Dream Perfect Regime” is no different and would shock fans with numerous announcements within the last couple weeks and even months.
The artists of the team “DPR” hold many sold out shows and concerts to their name in Korean rap, Hip-Hop and even Indie. Both IAN and DPR LIVE (Hong DaBin) were featured and announced to be part of different festivals and college festivals such as “Cult of Ya Fest”, “After The Apocalypse,” “Good Vibes,” “Lollapalooza,” and most notably “Head In The Clouds Festival” by 88rising.
Back in August, the official YouTube Account of Dream Perfect Regime (DPR) announced the release of their official EP “Welcome to the Other Side,” teased fans with the continuation of DPR IAN’s musical universe, and officially released, ‘Peanut Butter & Tears‘. The group also gave fans the chance to name their latest YouTube Channel, stating, “As our dreams expand, so does the way we want to share with our fans. We will be launching a new YouTube channel, which will be a first look into the other side of DPR, including everything from the good, the bad & the imperfect. To build this with our dreamers, we want you to COMMENT ANY IDEAS for the name of this new channel below. Dream Away.” Afterwards, the group thanked a youtube channel for the creation of the new channel name, “DPREALITY,” making fans even more eager for what’s coming next.
It didn’t take long before the official and latest MV, ‘So I Danced’ officially premiered on September 14th before being released the following day. The MV itself wittingly referenced back at previous MVs and works created by DPR IAN, even giving fans a new insight into the character known worldwide as “MITO.”
Some of the MV references stated by fans can be found in previous works, giving a hint or background into the characters: “Memories In Disorder – Official MITO Documentary,” DPR IAN’s “SERAPH 1 SHOT MOOD RIBBON Official MIITO Movie Part I,” ‘So Beautiful‘ MV and ‘No Blueberries‘ MV. Some fans even mentioned that some of the colours used and highlighted in the MV reminded them of DPR LIVE’s ‘Summer Tights‘ MV, which was released two years ago.
IAN even referenced the fan base within the official MV. The fans of DPR IAN, DPR LIVE, and DPR in general are referenced to as “Dreamers.”
DPR has been booked and busy, gaining even more praise for their creatives and visuals. Throughout the year, DPR IAN has been talking about being open with his mental health and bipolar disorder in numerous interviews, assuring fans that its okay to not always be okay, opening up about his experience as an idol and a member of ‘C Clown’, talking about his favourites inspiration, and sharing more about the group (DPR REM, DPR LIVE and DPR IAN) with Eric Nam‘s “Mindset.” DPR LIVE and DPR IAN were even featured on the South Korean Hip-Hop channel HIPHOPPLAYA, answering fan questions and theories, which you can watch or catch up on here: “Christian Yu answers your questions!“, “DPR Live & DPR Ian Interview“, “DPR Ian & DPR Live Answer Coachella Questions“, “DPR IAN and DPR LIVE At Psick University” and “GQ Korea with DPR CREAM, DPR LIVE and DPR IAN.”
