Kpopmap Fan Interview: A Filipino ENGENE Talks About Her Favorite Group ENHYPEN

There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other.

So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias.

Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from?

Hello! To all those who are reading this right now, I hope you’re having a great day! In stan twitter, I go by the name of Seki! I am an ENGENE from the Philippines!

 

How and when did you enter the fandom?

Funny story but I wasn’t fully aware of “I-LAND” way back then. Perhaps you could say I spent the year 2020 indulging myself in studying. It was until I saw an “I-LAND” clip where BTS is in it and I told my mom (who is actually an ARMY) about it. That’s when we decided to watch the whole “I-LAND” episode. I never knew ENHYPEN when I watched “I-LAND” last January 2021, so you could say I felt REALLY nervous on that final episode. Yes, apparently, after watching “I-LAND”, I became an ENGENE!

 

What are the reasons why you love your favorite group?

Normally, I would find it hard for me to ‘stan’ a group. Yet for some reasons, I was drawn with ENHYPEN’s dynamic and style. ENHYPEN continues to bring me the comfort I need even just by their sudden reports about how their day went or by just simply, you know, breathing.
Other than that, ENHYPEN’s dynamic is one of a kind. They perfectly fit each other. You just know that they give so much love to what they are doing and that’s inspiring.

 

Who caught your attention at first and why?

I knew Park SungHoon way back but (honestly) the first person who caught my attention was Jake. Like, come on, ENGENEs will understand! Jake is like the epitome of an angel. Sure, he’s handsome, but you can’t deny that once you look at him, he’s just so pure.

 

Who is your bias, and why?

Can I not answer? Kidding aside, I’ve gone through a LOT when it comes to picking my bias. I’m not loyal. *runs* Still, I know my top biases are HeeSeung, Sunoo, and JungWon! I just don’t give that much thought on who will be my ultimate bias. I just love them equally!

 

Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans?

This is a very hard question, I must say. But ‘GIVEN-TAKEN’ wins this time. You won’t ever find a unique debut song like ‘GIVEN-TAKEN’! Yet, if you want a more exciting song, ‘Drunk-Dazed’ is for you!

 

 

 

As for the B-side, I just knew new fans will love either ‘Fever’ or ‘Polaroid Love’ first. (But ‘Mixed Up’ and ‘Go Big or Go Home’ queens are superior for me!) Listen to those and you’ll definitely fall in love with their dancing for ‘Fever’ and their vocal tones for ‘Polaroid Love’!

 

 

Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your bias to our readers?

I suggest watching Sunoo’s Curiosity Lab! There are honestly so many things to learn about every ENHYPEN member, and throughout the process of watching Sunoo interview them, you could learn more about Sunoo too. It is a very fun VLIVE to watch!

 

Can you also do the same type of recommendation for the group?

I would highly suggest “ENHYPEN&HI” if you are planning to get to know them more. If you are looking for something with a variety of contents, you can watch their weekly show, “EN-O’CLOCK”!

 

 

Are there any words from the members you would like to share?

“The world cannot always be beautiful.” – Park JongSeong (ENHYPEN Jay)
These words came from him on his weverse post last April 08, 2022. It was a very long message yet these particular words struck me the most as it gives you that realization that indeed, nothing will ever be perfect and beautiful. His message was meaningful and impactful. (Quote was translated by @enhypenweverse on Twitter).

 

What is your favorite group/bias’ influence on your daily life?

You could say that it made me feel content with my life. There’s eagerness in me to showcase what I can do for other people, like participating in donations. It made me realize that even just taking small steps could make a difference.

 

For you, what is your bias’ best stage outfits until now? Please share a picture or fan cam.

What is your biggest dream for your favorite group/bias aside from being Happy and Healthy?

Being an idol is tough indeed. You couldn’t deny they are doing so much work behind the scenes to create their own masterpiece. My biggest dream for ENHYPEN is for them to get the recognition they deserve, whether it be winning on Billboard, getting lots of awards, etc.
+ I dreamt about Ni-ki going to a fashion week. Make it come true, [redacted]!

 

If you go to only one, would you go to a concert, fan meeting, or fan sign?

Hey, this is tough… But If I were to choose, I’d rather go to a concert. I want to feel their energy in performing the songs made for them. I want to enjoy every piece of their hardwork!

 

If you can spend a day with your bias, where will you go and what will you do?

I am a homebody so I don’t practically know where to go. Kidding aside, as someone who loved figure skating, I would definitely want to go on a skating rink with SungHoon! Or, let Ni-ki do what he wants to do! I’ll join him in his adventure!~

 

Describe them in 5 words.

Well determined and talented group.

 

What is one thing that you think is unique about your bias/bias group?

One thing that is unique about them is everything about themselves. I don’t think I’ve met a group that could inspire me like this. Other than that, even though they came from a survival show, their relationship to each other (as what I’ve seen on cameras) is heartwarming.
In addition, I would like to say something about their vocals. I can’t get enough with their vocals! JungWon has that unique and distinct vocal you won’t ever miss on their songs. HeeSeung has that wide range and trendy voice that you would definitely want to hear everyday! Jay, who has very sharp visuals, unexpectedly has a very mellow tone. His voice is sweet like honey. Jake, on the other hand, has that enthusiastic vocals. It makes you drawn to their music when you hear him start their songs. SungHoon has that calming and romantic vocals. Like hearing a song during winter and spring! Don’t you think? Sunoo definitely has a wide voice range as well! He has a very playful yet calming voice that would make you wanna sing along! Ni-ki, their maknae, has a dark voice. He sounded so good when he sang in his deep voice! All of them have different vocal ranges and tones yet still, they worked perfectly to one another!

If you could write a book about your bias, what would the first and last lines be?

This is probably about ENHYPEN:
First Line: “The darkness creeps in a very sinister way, yet having seven companions made me feel safe.”
Last Line: “In this journey where memories with them are held compact in my mind, the best thing is having them in my life.”

 

What is your favorite side of fangirling?

It is like what ENHYPEN means: to connect, to discover, and to grow. In all honesty, being a fan of ENHYPEN helped me to connect to other people, discover what I can do for other people, and to utilize what I learn for me to grow. Hence, maybe a lot didn’t realize this but, fangirling isn’t just about supporting your idols. At some point, it allows you to support yourself as well. That’s my favorite side of being a fan and as a person, our capability is endless. We can do so much.

 

Seki’s message to the group:

Even if we come to the point that we have to step on thorns, it wouldn’t hurt as long as the destination will lead to a flowery path together with you. Like what Jay said, the world is not always beautiful. Hence, let’s lean to each other and create beautiful memories instead. ENHYPEN, we will definitely be ALWAYS TOGETHER.
