Depending how long you have been in the creative world of K-Pop or even if you have been around K-Pop social media (SNS) these last couple years, you might be like me and have seen an increase of popularity regarding K-Pop fan call events or other special fan events. For a lot of fans it can sometimes be difficult to take time off work or school to attend a K-Pop concert or special fan meeting in Korea, they are a little different to these and can offer a variety of things.
Back in 2020 when fan events and meetings where hard to hold due to rules and regulations set in place during that time, fan calls were some of the latest ways to connect with fans across the globe and offered an unique way to connect and feel closer with your artist. Since then, fan calls have been a popular way of connecting with idols/artists and have became a beloved special event amongst many K-Pop fans.
What is a fan call?
For a majority of them, a fan call event often works just like a video call between two people. Depending what site you are purchasing, you often purchase an album or take part in an event for a chance to have a video call with the artist or member of your choice. Depending on the length of the event, it can last anywhere from one to three minutes, sometimes longer. If you purchase more then one, chances are you will talk 1 on 1 with more then one person. The event organizers/ companies will usually list or update you with information within your email for the date of the call, time of call, which member/artist you will be talking to, rules for what to do and what not to do and any further details regarding the video call. In an recent announcement in a shared post, the South Korean pre debut boy group LUPITER (유피테르) would announce that the members would be having what appears to be their first video call event with fans with BECLE.
Within the announcement, fans can have a video fan call with any of the members; SIHO, Sangwoo, SeoJun and Taeo.
