Why Seo Bumjune Is A Familiar Face to Check Out

Many avid K-Drama watchers may look at Seo Bumjune and wonder why he is so recognizable, and it is likely due to his multitude of supporting roles in popular dramas. 

Bumjune got his start in 2021 with a role in the popular Netflix drama “Nevertheless” as Hwang Jinsu, a student working alongside Han Sohee and Song Kang’s characters. In 2022, he acted as two additional supporting roles: the comedic nurse, Cha Jihoon, in “Dr. Park’s Clinic” and the aggressive senior student, Choi Inshik, in “Rookie Cops”. 

He landed his first and only main role in 2022 as Lee Soojae, the youngest of three sons, in the KBS 50-episode drama “It’s Beautiful Now” which brought him some more attention amongst Korean fans. This was followed by another three roles as a supporting character including Song Jinwoo in “High Cookie”, Lee Bareun in “Nothing Uncovered” and most recently Nam Juwon in Netflix’s “Hierarchy”. 

For many, “Hierarchy” was seen as a moment of reunion for the iconic Inkigayo trio “JJUNIJJUN” which consists of TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s Yeonjun, actress Roh Jeongeui, and Seo Bumjune. This MC trio for SBS Inkigayo worked together from April 2022 until April 2023, creating a strong friendship that many fans adored. Although Yeonjun was not a part of “Hierarchy”, fans were able to see Jeongeui and Bumjune act alongside each other for the first time.

Seo Bumjune has show promise as an actor, from playing the adorable youngest son to villainous roles, he has show a range of emotions and capabilities. Bumjune is also a graduate of Seoul Institute of the Arts, notable alumni being Cha Tae-hyun, Choi Myung-gil, Jang Hyuk, Jo Jung-suk, Kim Ha-neul and more. He also went viral in 2022 for a resurfaced clip of his appearance on the show “Well Done Again Today” in 2016 in which he was surprised by his favorite actor Yoo Ji-tae at the end of a tough day at work. Many people were touched by his emotional reaction and happy to see that Bumjune had now achieved his dreams of being an actor, even getting to reunite with and work alongside Yoo Ji-tae.

Aside from his work as an actor and MC, he has also been a supportive friend to many within the K-pop idol industry. He is notably close with SHINee’s KEY, who named him as one of his top 5 closest dongsaengs (younger friends). Aside from KEY and TXT’s Yeonjun, he has also made appearances with Kevin from The Boyz, Haechan and Renjun of NCT Dream, as well as Ten from WayV (NCT), showing support at their concerts. 

Growing from 22k Instagram followers in April of 2022 to over 200k followers in June of 2023, Seo Bumjune has shown a steady rise in popularity as well as many connections made with actors and idols within the industry. Keep your eyes on Seo Bumjune, as it seems he is only a main role away from a big break!
